Prior Professional Experience
University of California at Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA
Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Research Biologist, Department of Medicine, 1994 - 2001.
Examined the subcellular localization of the c-Fes non-receptor tyrosine kinase, its potential role in regulating the cell cycle and the significance of its alternatively-spliced forms; studied the role of c-Fes in the growth and development of normal and leukemic blood cells using recombinant DNA technology, immunocytochemistry, and tissue culture techniques; studied the expression of the Notch receptor and its ligands during hematopoietic development in the mouse; NIH postdoctoral training grant, Tumor Cell Biology (1994 - 1995).

Doctoral Student, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, 1986 - 1994.
Investigated the transport and metabolism of retinoids using chromatographic and tissue culture techniques; purified several retinoid-binding proteins and compared the physical properties of one of these with its recombinant counterpart; NIH predoctoral training grant, Vision Research Training Program (1991 - 1994).

Laboratory Technician, Lady Davis Institute, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, 1985 - 1986.
Purified the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) II receptor using a multi-step chromatographic process.

Masters Student, Department of Biology, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, 1982 - 1985.
Demonstrated that a putative marker for androgen-resistance is variably expressed in genital skin fibroblasts cultured from androgen-resistant individuals. F.C.A.C. Quebec Scholarship (1983 - 1984)

Honors Research Project, Department of Biology, University,
Montreal, Canada, 1981 - 1982.
Studied the dissociative behavior of androgen-receptor complexes derived from normal and androgen-resistant human genital skin fibroblasts.
